Raised in San Mateo, California, Leonard was in the first Naval ROTC graduating class at USC. Serving as an Ensign, Len attended the Navy post graduate program at Harvard University in preparation for his services with the Naval Seabee Supply Corp. He served in the Naval Reserve program after the war, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.
As an entrepreneur with his brother Jack, they founded Mack Brothers Real Estate, Wen-Mac Manufacturing Corporation, and Republic Tool and Manufacturing Corporation.
Len’s dedication to the armed forces continued as the President of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and he earned the Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award from the Secretary of the Navy.
Answering the call from Ronald Reagan, Len served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs at the Pentagon – where he received his second Navy Public Service Award. He also served as the Director of the Private Banking Division of Bank of America.
Len received the Scout Family Values Award from Boy Scouts of America in recognition of his commitment to community and country.
Married 63 years, Len and Virginia had five children, 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren: many living in the Palisades community.
We celebrate the extraordinary life of a selfless gentleman.
